We are pleased to announce that our team is presenting an upcoming webcast on social media and employment. Social Intelligence president, Bianca Lager, and business development manager, Jonny Hawley, will host the hour-long presentation next week. “Social Media and Employment: Potent Benefits, Easily Avoided Risks” will begin at 1:00 PM ET on September 27th.

Over the past ten years, social media has become pervasive part of our lives. Because it offers such valuable insight about a candidate, it makes sense that companies have started to use social media to vet potential employees. However, it can be problematic for an organization to go through a candidate’s social media in-house.

During the webcast, you’ll learn:

-How social media background checks can reduce your risk for negligent hiring
-What information is relevant to a hiring decision and how to avoid protected class violations
-What a thorough social media search should include
-Compliance rules for conducting an online screening
-Real life examples of social media causing consequences for both organizations and employees
-What to avoid when scouting a social media vendor
-Best practices for creating a social media policy at your company

Are you interested in attending our webcast? Register for free at HR.com. We hope to see you there! If you can’t make it and would like to learn more about our product, give us a call at 888-748-3281. Our team would be happy to discuss the product further with you.

Sterling Talent Solutions, one of our partners, will host a webinar about Social Media Background Checks next week. The event takes place at 2:00 PM EST on Thursday, August 10th. We’re excited to announce that Social Intel’s president, Bianca Lager, will be co-presenting during the hour-long webinar. Make sure to register now so that you can attend.

What will the webinar cover?

The webinar will focus on the potential rewards and compliance risks of using Social Media Background Checks. This type of background check is particularly valuable for employers because it offers a comprehensive look at an individual’s online presence. A candidate’s social media accounts and profiles may contain red flag behavior that could make them a threat to workplace safety. That includes racist, illegal, violent, or sexually explicit behavior that likely wouldn’t be revealed during a face-to-face interview. Here are a few of the topics that will be discussed:

-What to include in your company’s social media policy

-How to avoid potential EEOC violations when using social media information

-Who you should consider running these types of reports on

-What is included in a social media background check

-How these reports can help minimize your risk of making a negligent hire

-Why you should consider using a third-party vendor

We hope you can make it to the webinar! If you are interested, but unavailable at that time, you can still receive the recording as long as you have registered. You can read more about mitigating the risks of social media screening here.
